Personal Life

Jude's film career may or may not be particularly in the news, but his off-screen romances have been a subject of constant media scrutiny, beginning with his marriage to co-star Sadie Frost in 1997. The couple had three children together, and the marriage ended with a publicized divorce in 2003. Frost went on to accuse her estranged husband of worsening her postnatal depression which she suffered from after the birth of their third child.

His relationship with his Alfie co-star Sienna Miller was not without its fair share of controversies. The couple was engaged to be married in the year 2004, but split up in July 2005 after Law admitted to having had an affair with Daisy Wright, his children's nanny. His rocky relationship with Miller continued with several breakups and reconciliations until 2011.

In 2008, Jude Law had a brief relationship with model Samantha Burke. She is the mother of his fourth child, Sophia, born in 2009.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a 21st-century actor who is considered to be one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He is also a dedicated environmentalist, receiving accolades for his contribution. Here's more on this multifaceted personality.

The saga of humble beginnings that pave the way to success continues with the actor who was considered to be a major rage among the teens in the 1990s. From the naughty child to the teenage heartthrob to the handsome actor that he is, DiCaprio's tryst of being the spirited boy continues.

DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles and is the only child of George DiCaprio and Irmelin DiCaprio. His parents divorced when he was barely a year old; however, despite the separation, his parents played an important role in his upbringing. Though he was mostly raised by his mother, Leo stayed in touch with his father who played an important role in boosting his innate talent.

DiCaprio loves having Pasta and among his favorite are Lemonade, Diet Coke and Fruitopia.

Biography of Mel Gibson

From a charming, devilishly handsome movie star to a complete pariah, Mel Gibson has seen the ups and downs of stardom like no other. Now, having scripted his very own Shakespearean tragedy, he seems more like a forced recluse - isolated and ostracized.

In his early years, Mel Gibson's movies were something to look forward to. As the star of two super successful action series - Mad Max and Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson was on top of his game. He had a lovely family, millions in the bank and the love of his fans.

His Early Days ...

Mel Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York to Anne Patricia and Hutton Gibson on January 3, 1956. He was the sixth child among eleven siblings. The family moved to Australia where Gibson spent most of his early years. He was a student at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. Here, he was trained for acting on stage, in the strictest sense, rather than cinematic acting. As a student, he acted in a few Shakespearean dramas, and continued to do so for a while even after he completed his stint at NIDA.

It was around the same time that he met his wife, Robyn Moore, in Adelaide, where they shared the same apartment. They married in 1980 and had seven children together.

His first celluloid experience came in Mad Max, the story of a righteous patrol policeman set in Australia. The film garnered worldwide success and paved way for bigger projects. His American debut was The Bounty which also featured Sir Anthony Hopkins. His debut film received a lukewarm response, and it was not before the release of Lethal Weapon (1987) that Gibson was counted among his big screen contemporaries.

Lethal Weapon was the super successful franchise, along with Mad Max that catapulted Mel Gibson into the big league. In fact, he received his first million dollar paycheck for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, the third part of the hit series. With Lethal Weapon, he reinvented the action-comedy genre and tasted phenomenal mainstream success.

A string of successful movies followed - Ransom (1996), What Women Want (2000), Signs (2002) which cemented his position as a top-notch Hollywood star. His production company, Icon Productions was also going great guns, with Gibson himself venturing into direction.

Mel Gibson, The Director

His maiden directorial venture was 1993's The Man Without a Face, a sensitive tale spun around a student-teacher relationship. Though the film's collections were not too significant, Gibson managed to establish a certain amount of credibility as a director.

His next project was Braveheart, a fictionalized spin-off on the story of Sir William Wallace. The movie broke records and picked up several major awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director. Braveheart remains Gibson's most prolific work, at least before his downward spiral began.

Gibson has had to deal with allegations of being anti-Semitic, mostly due to his ultra-conservative Catholic upbringing and more importantly, having Hutton Gibson as his father, who was a prominent Holocaust denier. When he made The Passion of the Christ, a film revolving around the final hours of the life of Jesus Christ, its not-so-subtle anti-Semitic undertones were for all to see. Although Gibson vehemently denied any deliberate racist elements, certain sections of the audience had every reason to believe otherwise. The movie was applauded by many as path breaking, with its graphic depiction of the events leading up to the Crucifixion. It was no less than a dream project for Gibson, being a devout Catholic himself. The dialogs in the film were in Aramaic and Latin, with a view to refine cinematic expression. Later, of course, he had to bow down to practical concerns and release the film with English subtitles. Gibson's creativity paid off and the film went on to become the highest grossing non-English film of all time.

The Controversies
Mel Gibson confessed to having alcohol abuse issues in 2002, and has had several stints in rehab. A few years after the release of his highly controversial movie, The Passion of the Christ, Gibson was caught for driving under the influence of alcohol. The officer making the arrest was greeted with a barrage of anti-Semitic comments which created a furore.

He has been quite vocal regarding his warped views on homosexuality, only to retract them later. Again, he chooses to blame his behavior on his addiction to alcohol.

Amongst other things, he's had a war of words with feminists and has been in the news for incidents pointing to his involvement in racial discrimination. Gibson's altercation with his ex-partner, Oksana Grigorieva could be termed as the 'final nail in his coffin'. Grigorieva, the mother of his daughter, filed a case of domestic violence against him in 2010. While Gibson denied the episode, it was definitely tabloid fodder.

Gibson has admitted to having felt suicidal, and credits his religious faith for his survival throughout that phase in his life.

With an illustrious career spanning decades as an actor, director and producer, Mel Gibson will always be counted amongst Hollywood's ruling elite. However, in recent times, anything flattering about him is always mentioned in the past tense. Several misdemeanors later, Mel Gibson has consciously kept himself out of the public eye, and there are many who would like him to fade away into oblivion. The world of cinema has, as of now, lost a talented persona, but not surprisingly, no one's really grieving about it.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan Dead at Age 54

Beloved, oversized actor Michael Clarke Duncan died on Monday at the age of 54, and is remembered fondly by those in Hollywood.
Michael Clarke Duncan, the huge character actor who appeared in dozens of films, died on Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Duncan appeared in many films, most notable among them "Armageddon," "Planet of the Apes," "The Green Mile" and "Kung Fu Panda." He was at Cedars-Sinai to be treated for a heart attack according to his fiancée, reality television star Rev. Omarosa Manigault. Information about the actor’s death was released by publicist Joy Fehily.

Duncan, who stood at 6-foot-4 and sported huge muscles on a hulking frame, was a former bodyguard before turning his attention to acting when he was already in his 30s. According to the statement that was released, Duncan, "suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered. Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date."

Many reactions came from the actors with whom Duncan worked. Tom Hanks noted in a statement, "I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of 'The Green Mile.' He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned."

In Duncan’s early life, he wanted to play football, but his single mom, who raised him, refused to let him do so. He went to Alcorn State University for a time, but had to drop out to do manual labor and work as a bouncer to support himself and his mother when she became ill. He eventually served as a bodyguard to various stars before getting into acting himself.

Larry Hagman, One of the Greatest TV Villains, Dead at 81

Larry Hagman was best known as TV villain J.R. Ewing – the actor passed away at the age of 81 in Texas on Friday.
For those who were of age in the 1980s, there was no more popular show than "Dallas" and no more seminal villain than J.R. Ewing, played by Larry Hagman. Hagman died at the age of 81 on Friday according to the Dallas Morning News, and tweets and comments abounded from those who knew and loved him, including those he worked with. Hagman had been battling throat cancer after also battling against liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver from heavy drinking earlier in his life.

Hagman first broke into the big time television scene in 1965 when he played Major Anthony Nelson on "I Dream of Jeannie." Dallas premiered on CBS in 1978 and it is the show that made Hagman a star. The night-time soap opera detailed the feuds between the Ewing family, a wealthy oil family from Texas. The show spanned 3 decades, including 356 episodes from 1978 to 1991.

Speaking of his infamous character, J.R. Ewing, Hagman noted in an interview with Time magazine, "I really can't remember half of the people I've slept with, stabbed in the back or driven to suicide." Born on September 21, 1931 in Weatherford, Texas, Hagman battled his vices before turning his life around to be a spokesman for organ transplants and healthy living. He was a heavy drinker during his time on Dallas and didn’t stop until 1992, when his doctor told him he could die within 6 months if he didn’t quit. Despite ailments and having to give up all his vices, he lived the rest of his life to the fullest.

Who is Batman? DC Comic writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane are to be credited for bringing Batman to life. This superhero is often called The Caped Crusader and The Dark Knight, and has been transformed from comic books to live-action movies, television series, and animation. Batman, as we all know him, is the alter ego or secret identity of multi-millionaire Bruce Wayne. This comic book superhero has been recreated by famous Hollywood actors time and again. With each movie, Batman became more and more dark and showed very little remorse toward villains. In this article, we are going to shed some light on this hero and the Hollywood stars who have played Batman in movies.

A Brief History

One night in Gotham City, as a child, Bruce Wayne was witness to his parents' brutal death. Since that night, he channeled that anger towards wiping criminals from the city and making a haven for its residents. Although he doesn't possess any superpowers, he relies on his amazing intelligence, physical strength via training, advanced gadgets, and fighting techniques that he developed over the years.

The live-action movies portraying The Caped Crusader have made quite an impact on how we perceive the superhero. With directors bringing in their own, unique knowledge and expertise on who Batman really is, the movies have been depicted so. And now, we move on to taking a closer look at the actors who've given their best for the 'role of a lifetime'.

Adam West
Adam West was the first television actor who received the coveted movie role of Batman. At the time, he was playing the superhero on television. The series was called Batman. The movie was directed by Leslie H. Martinson. West was Batman on the television series of the same name from the year 1966 to 1968. The movie had all the original cast from the series along with Burt Ward playing his sidekick, Robin. The movie was made after the series' 1st season finale.

Michael Keaton
After over 2 decades, Tim Burton brought forth a new Cape Crusader amongst us - Michael Keaton. Not only did the actor stay true to Bruce Wayne's dark past and tough exterior, he gave the character depth and personality. Keaton gave a fantastic performance which earned him acclamation from not just Batman fans, but critics as well. Taking the superhero film genre to the next level, making the characters (not just the bad guys) darker and more primal in nature, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton made such a fantastic team, that the duo released another movie, a sequel, Batman Returns, in 1992. Keeping the character true to its name, Keaton reprised his role and made a huge impact for Batman movies and in his career. After tasting success of 2 movies, a third sequel was supposed to be made. However, after Tim Burton was let go from the series, Keaton also opted to leave the project.

Val Kilmer
Next in line is none other than the handsome, dashing, Val Kilmer. After exits from Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, in came Joel Schumacher as director and Val Kilmer as Batman in Batman Forever. Although Burton was not directing the third installment, he was committed to the project as a producer. Now first of all, Val Kilmer is a good actor who did amazing work in various genres and movies. However, selecting him as Batman was a risky choice which unfortunately, didn't do all that for the franchise. The pout was excellent (in the mask) and the thought of him showing a darker side was intoxicating; but that didn't really transpire well with the audience. Somewhere the diehard fans weren't too happy with Kilmer's costume as well; the embellishments weren't well-received. And the fact that Schumacher commented on Kilmer as 'childish and impossible' doesn't really boast well too. Well, the movie didn't do so well and soon Kilmer as Batman was nothing but a part of history.

George Clooney
With frustration looming on the sets, Schumacher had decided to replace Kilmer with George Clooney and give Batman a new spin in Batman & Robin. With an amazing cast (not just the 2 superheroes), the new film looked quite promising. However, George Clooney was the lowest-ranking Dark Knight till date. Not only did the movie get a negative reception, but Schumacher kept the nipple-engrafted costumes for Batman and Robin (not a great look for superheroes). The point is, it wasn't working well and George Clooney somewhere failed to channel the darkness of Batman in front of the audience. Finally, the not-so-reassuring words from Clooney were that the franchise must've taken a hit by this series and was a waste of money. Well, after that, what else can we say?!

Christian Bale
Last, but certainly not the least, Christian Bale was the replacement to try to resurrect the falling image of Batman. With not just 1 but 3 Batman movies under his belt, Bale has finally proved that he is the true Cape Crusader. Not only did he put life back into the franchise and series, he also gave Batman a new purpose. With Christopher Nolan in the director's seat, he and Bale first released Batman Begins in 2005. The franchise got an immense reboot, Batman was back in the action-packed avatar, and the audience were loving every second of it. In 2008, the dynamic duo was back with The Dark Knight; a true title for the worthy. However, Bale wasn't the only one making rounds for accolade. Joining him, or should I say going a step ahead, was Heath Ledger with his amazing performance as the Joker. And now, the world is waiting for the 3rd installment with Bale-Nolan back doing what they do best. The Dark Knight Rises is set to release July 20, 2012 and we just can't wait any longer. Only time will tell if Bale can give another fantastic performance and keep the legend of Batman alive.
